Brewing Tips

Brewing the perfect cup of coffee may seem fussy at first and takes a while to find what you like best. Factors like grind, strength, brew time, water and preparation method can all impact the outcome of your cup. We’ve gathered some our brewing tips to start you off on your journey but remember rules are meant to be broken so adjust as needed for what works best for you.

Tips

  1. Start with fresh coffee beans ground for your brewing method
  2. Weigh out grounds per serving to achieve desired strength
  3. Use cold water from the tap or filtered
  4. Heat water to 195 – 205 degrees Fahrenheit
  5. Let the coffee brew to extract the flavours
  6. Discard spent grounds in your compost

Pour Over

The Grind: medium-fine to coarse
Strength:2-3 tablespoons of coffee (14-21g) per cup
Brew: 1-3 minutes
Flavour Profile: Smooth, round body

French Press

Equipment: Bodum or similar
The Grind: coarse
Strength: 2-2.5 tablespoons of coffee (14-17g) per cup
Brew: 4 minutes
Flavour Profile: pure, clean flavour nuances that are complex and robust body

Stovetop Espresso

Equipment: Moka Pot or similar
Grind: Fine-Medium Coarse
Strength: 2-3 tablespoons of coffee (14-21g) per cup
Brew Time: 5 minutes
Flavour Profile: espresso-style coffee, strong and can be bitter

Manual Espresso Maker

Equipment: Aeropress or similar
Grind of Beans: fine-medium
Strength: 2.5 tablespoons of coffee (17g)
Brew Time: 1-2 minutes
Flavour Profile: sweet, full-bodied, espresso-style coffee
