Our Ocotepeque Coffee is a versatile choice whether you’re enjoying your first cup of the morning or settling in for an afternoon break.

Honduras: A Rising Coffee Origin
While countries like Colombia and Brazil often receive much of the attention in the coffee world, Honduras has quietly become one of the industry’s leading producers.
Today, Honduras is the largest coffee exporter in Central America and consistently ranks among the world’s top producers of Arabica coffee. The country’s combination of high elevations, rich volcanic soils, and favourable growing conditions has helped establish it as one of the most respected origins in specialty coffee.
Coffee first arrived in Honduras during the 18th century, but it wasn’t until the late 20th century that production expanded significantly. Today, coffee plays an important role in supporting rural communities and the national economy.

From the Mountains of Ocotepeque
The coffee is grown in the high-altitude, mountainous region of Western Honduras Opalaca. Opalaca is an indigenous word that means “in the water of the Ocpales.”
This unique landscape serves as an important environmental buffer zone and habitat for a variety of migratory and threatened wildlife, including birds, frogs, monkeys, deer, and puma that travel through the Central American isthmus. The region’s combination of altitude, climate, and biodiversity helps create ideal conditions for producing high-quality specialty coffee.
Our Ocotepeque coffee is made from a blend of Arabica varietals including Caturra, Bourbon, Catuai, and Catimor. After harvesting, the beans undergo a washed process, where the fruit pulp is completely removed from the beans before drying. The washed process helps create the clean, balanced cup profile that defines this coffee.

The Farmers Behind Every Cup
Good Earth’s Seasonal Honduran Coffee comes from the Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros de Occidente de Honduras (APROCAOH), a cooperative of coffee producers in western Honduras.
APROCAOH was established to improve the livelihoods of coffee-growing families through collaboration, education, and sustainable agricultural practices. Members regularly participate in training programs, quality improvement initiatives, and shared decision-making processes that help strengthen both coffee production and their communities.
APROCAOH is deeply committed to sustainability. The cooperative promotes responsible agricultural practices, including careful use of inputs and exploration of cost effective, environmentally mindful farming methods. By supporting capacity building initiatives and fostering resilience among farmers, APROCAOH helps ensure both the long term sustainability of coffee production and the well being of its communities.

Why Fairtrade Matters
This seasonal coffee is Fairtrade Certified, a designation that helps ensure farmers receive fair, stable prices for their coffee and work under safe, equitable conditions.
Beyond pricing, Fairtrade certification provides additional premiums that farming communities can invest in local priorities. These investments often support education, infrastructure improvements, and community development projects that create lasting benefits for future generations.
For coffee-growing communities facing challenges such as climate change, economic uncertainty, and fluctuating market prices, Fairtrade programs can play an important role in building resilience and long-term sustainability.
At Good Earth Coffeehouse, we’re proud to support coffee producers whose dedication and hard work make every cup possible.

Sustainability in Action
Sustainability is an important part of coffee farming in Ocotepeque.
Many farmers utilize environmentally responsible growing methods, including shade-grown cultivation techniques that help preserve local ecosystems. Coffee pulp, a by-product of processing, is often converted into natural fertilizer, reducing waste while improving soil health.
These practices help protect the land for future generations while supporting the long-term viability of coffee farming in the region.
